Estudi Limón – Nuba
Nuba falls halfway between tradition, identity and new technologies.
Limón is a graphic design studio that makes ceramics located in La Bisbal d’Empordà. It is made up of Mar Marcelino, its ceramic product designer and technician, and Daniel Peris, who is its graphic designer and art director. They work in an environment in which there are not just screens. Their workshop is a core component of their work process where they draw on the experience gained from materials and new projects. The workshop is one of the spaces where they build up disciplines, do research, create and seek pathways to improve themselves. This takes them on a two-way journey: from the screen to the workshop, and from the workshop to the screen.
Simulating the scarifications photographed by Leni Riefenstahl and the colour of the ash on the bodies of warriors, these jugs are inspired by the Nuba people, various ethnic groups who live in Kordofan and the remote valleys of central Sudan. Made using 3D printing and locally developed ceramic pastes, the Nuba jugs seeks to come up with the perfect non-drip spout, as well as not having a handle. They are a mixture of tradition, identity and new technology. Our favourite mixture.
