VO Estudi – Majolic
Traditional Catalan ceramics paves the way for new spaces and objects.
VO Estudi leans towards designing functional, aesthetically pleasing and evocative products, which is why they are inspired by nature, cultural values and tradition, whilst endeavouring to confer a symbolic personality to each project through shapes, textures, colours, etc. The studio experiments with materials and production methods as a basic necessity in the design process. It likewise sets out to simplify processes and to make the most of resources in all projects as efficiently as possible. However, shapes, materials, finishes, etc. are not the only consideration in the design of its products, but also the social and ethical values entailed in responsible production, all of which drives its team to create new objects in line with the current needs of society.
The design of the Majolic light fixture arose from the need to create a more modern look in the craft sector, such as traditional Catalan ceramics, which has lost both admirers and craftspeople of this technique. Its simple geometric shapes were designed to highlight the paintwork done by hand, in which traditional colours and patterns have been kept, whilst creating a more contemporary aesthetic object.
