TORU Jordi Ribaudí Trepat – Clop
An initiative that draws on the testimony of local furriers to create pieces with this legacy.
TORU is a relatively new craft and design business that was set up in 2015 by Jordi Ribaudí. It is currently managed by Jordi and Maite Pérez, who make beautiful, simple furniture made out of exquisite materials. Their collections are characterised by the use of high-quality leather that is made locally to the very highest standards using vegetable tanned leather. Based in Igualada (Barcelona), the company has its roots in the local leather industry and is located in a refurbished 19th century tannery.
Clop is a chair made of two down-to-earth materials: wood and leather. Featuring an unexpected fold at the top of the backrest, the Clop chair takes us on a journey that starts out as a basic clog – half wood, half leather – and ends on the idea of a chair: a perfect marriage of ideas and materials. This chair was created based on a certain way of making primitive, natural, hard-wearing but authentic objects. It is like a bonfire in the middle of the forest.
