Joan Serra

Joan Serra (1962, Mataró,) graduated in Applied Arts and Artistic Trades in 1982 from the Escuela Pau Gargallo, Badalona. He is a member of the Asociación de Ceramistas de Cataluña, a master artesan, awarded by the Generalitat de Cataluña, and a member of the Academia Internacional de Cerámica de Ginebra.

He is currently director and professor of the ceramics school at the Museu del Càntir, Argentona as well as being responsible for the educational activities of the International Ceramics Fair in the same town.

At the same time, he has developed his personal artistic work, with which he has received several awards, both nationally and internationally. His work is part of various museums and collections around the world, and his pieces are regularly exhibited in Europe, France, Switzerland, Holland … and also in Asian countries, such as China, Korea and Japan.

All the effects and defects of the form make up a reality, a reflection of a precise moment of the play between earth and fire. A minimalist aesthetic contained in the richness of the language of the ceramic material.
