Laia Pla

Laia Pla (1973, Badalona,) studied sculpture at the Escuela Superior de Arte y Diseño Pau Gargallo de Badalona (Barcelona,) and fashion design at the Escola d’Arts Aplicades i Oficis Artístics Llotja, Barcelona.

Mixing two disciplines, the creation of textile sculptures is at the basis of her work. Utilising additional materials to create experimental lines, her work begins life in a classic process, modelling clay. When the mold is made, she experiments with textile material, paper, resin, plaster, cement and anything else that comes to mind.

She has participated in numerous collective exhibitions in Italy (San Vigilio), Estonia and Spain (Huesca, Múrcia, Girona, Barcelona, Tarragona, Badalona, Cornellà de Llobregat, Granollers, Mataró, Sitges, Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Torredembarra, Mataró and Menorca). She has exhibited at the Museo de la Música, Barcelona, at the Museo de Ciencias Naturales de Granollers and at the Museo Europeo de Arte Moderno (MEAM,) Barcelona where one of her pieces is included in the permanent collection of the museum.
